A review of what reality is and why abandoning it is a problem

I propose this working definition of “reality.” Reality is the combination of your observations, your thoughts, your feelings, your beliefs and your assumptions. For purposes of philosophy, there’s not really any such thing as “objective reality,” because there is no objective observer to describe it. All we have is each of us individual humans, experiencing reality individually, functioning on the basis of what we experience. For that reason, we not only each experience a unique reality, we each create a unique reality by what we notice, what we think, what we feel, believe, and assume.

We are currently dealing with two pretty serious problems regarding reality. These two problems have led us to a shared reality that is looking more and more dystopian every minute, and it it going to be up to us to re-shape it into what we want and need — if necessary, in spite of the people in power.

The first problem is that many of us — possibly all of us — have forfeited our personal control of one or more of the things that construct our reality to an outside source. If you let someone else do the observing, or the thinking, or you accept others’ feelings, beliefs, or assumptions as your own, you are letting someone else create your reality.
